Lead Artist at Encore VFX                                       Aug 2018 - Aug 2023, Burbank, CA

I am the lead groom, and character creature artist for award winning TV shows such as :The Flash, Doom Patrol, Titans, etc. I helped develop and implement the workflow and pipeline of digital hair creation for humans, animals and creatures in Houdini. I lead our groom artists and provide technical and creative guidance as needed.

Other than Groom lead, I also work closely with our show and department supervisors helping R&D unique and complex characters and creatures and make sure those assets integrate smoothly with our pipeline, and helping with troubleshooting any hair or look development issues as needed. And last but not least  I work on models, textures, look development and groom tasks for realistic character and creature creations as lead artist.

Skills

People skills 

I am a very observant and empathetic person. And I am very patient with teaching and helping people and I would always consider things from the perspective of the other party. Consistently working with other departments and helping my team made my communication skills very good.  And with my good awareness of surroundings and technical thinking, I can usually quickly grasp where the problem is. And that usually pushes me towards the problem solver role in the team.

Technical skills

Texturing and Shading Experienced with hand-painted textures and photo-editing textures using Mari, Zbrush, Substance and Photoshop. Experienced with node based shading network renderers such as Arnold, VRay, Renderman, etc... 

Grooming Experienced in Grooming using Houdini, Ornatrix, and XGen 

Modeling Experienced in organic modeling using Maya and Zbrush, Marvelous designer for cloth building.Had experience with FACS blendshapes for human and creature. Experienced in dealing with scan data from photogrammetry and light-stage for digital doubles.

Other general skills  

Good at animating , have basic rigging skills in Maya, and  have basic skills with compositing softwares such as Nuke and AE. Have a basic understanding of Solaris and USD. I speak English and Chinese. And I have basic skills with python, C, C++. Good with cats
